Fir Trees sits on Newlands Close in Hitchin, a quiet residential street of detached houses. Peter Dann provided structural services for the recent refurbishment and extensions of this property, which has focused on opening the rear of the house to the garden. This required the removal of existing ground floor walls. We assessed the adequacy of existing walls and advised on remedial works.
In addition to designing the rear and front extension above the garage, we designed a new roof for the extension with steel frame and beams.
The new open-plan kitchen and dining space now form the key focus of the home, with large areas of glazing that frame views of the lawn and terrace.
The main entrance leads into a bright hall and a series of well proportioned rooms that wrap around the staircase.
