New North Community School has been designed to maximise the multi-purpose use of space. It provides an inclusive environment of community facilities, providing a Sure Start Children’s Centre for 50 children, a dance hall, catering, changing rooms and multi-use games facilities.
It also complies with the latest standards of disability, including the visually impaired. Additionally, the school is designed to be physically accessible and welcoming to parents and the community during and out of school hours. The building was constructed using traditional masonry on piled foundations to provide thermal mass and enable natural ventilation.
The rotunda portion of the building is steel-framed with coloured render inside and out. There is concrete flooring throughout with timber framed windows and external aluminium cladding.
