The Morton has been refurbished into a stunning literary-styled hotel – a new addition to the Imperial London Hotels chain. Designed as a small boutique hotel offering a variety of accommodation from bedrooms to one and two bed serviced apartments, the styling hints back to the original imagery of the Bloomsbury Group, inspired by Vanessa Bell’s artwork and Virginia Woolf’s literature.
Peter Dann’s extensive experience in the modification of existing building structures was invaluable on this refurbishment project. With decades of deterioration and varying historical construction techniques, many technical challenges had to be overcome both during the design phase and onsite works, with hidden defects uncovered during strip out, and major internal alterations to layout necessary in order to create the new hotel room structure.
The Morton Hotel has been brought back to life both inside and out and the project was a success due to the close working relationship between client, contractor and design team, and the ability of the team to react to unforeseen site challenges.
