Courtyard by Marriott (Edinburgh)

This modular hotel on the Heriot-Watt University campus comprises 160 bedrooms with additional multi-purpose rooms in the top storey, and meeting spaces, dining and lounge areas within the ground floor. It is part of the National Performance Centre for Sport located on the campus which includes state of the art sports facilities which are used by the Scottish Football Association and the Scottish Rugby Union.

Peter Dann designed the substructure and superstructure, including mass concrete foundations, a steel-frame ground floor podium structure with mezzanine level and the modular bedrooms. The entire building was modelled in Revit allowing a fully coordinated building model to be created including structural, architectural and servicing information.

The modules were constructed off-site in Europe ensuring high standards of finishes and minimal waste, and were shipped to the U.K before being driven to site and craned into position on top of the podium structure. Modular construction reduced the on-site construction programme.
