The British Film Institute (BFI) project involved the extension and refurbishment of a restaurant and bar, including a grand cantilevered balcony to allow the public to enjoy views of the South Bank and Waterloo Bridge.

The large cantilever on the balcony was made possible with a system of perimeter trusses hidden within the cladding. A new internal space at 1st floor has been created by the introduction of a new glazed wall which cantilevers vertically to keep the new structure independent from the existing bridge.

Alterations to the existing 1950’s extension included the introduction of a large circular void in the 1st floor slab to create an internal balcony within the new 1st floor bar area.
