AJ Awards Shortlist + Dezeen Feature

The ground-floor renovation of a mews house we worked on has been shortlisted for the AJ Retrofit Awards 2023 and also featured in Dezeen Magazine.

#TrewhelaWilliams architects have transformed a ‘dark and insular’ interior to a pared-back, open-plan living area.

Peter Dann Ltd. designed steel frames to allow the internal cross walls to be removed at ground floor level opening up the internal space, as well as a moment frame at the rear of the property to support the large, glazed pivot door leading to the courtyard. A new floor was also installed within the original garage area and timber and steel elements designed to allow the construction of the bespoke floating bench in the courtyard and the striking timber louvre to the front of the property.

The joinery was influenced by the ‘minimalist wooden sculptures of American artist Donald Judd’ writes Alyn Griffiths in #dezeen. Whilst we believe this sculptural house has every chance of winning at the AJ Awards, we wish all entrants the best of luck – watch this space!
