This Costa Coffee outlet is set within a busy retail park in Crawley, West Sussex. Peter Dann were part of the design team that created this feature building in the existing retail park. The project required careful sequencing and use of materials to enable the coffee outlet to be constructed in the limited space available.
The building has a curved shop front with an oblique roof that slopes away from it. Structural steelwork was used to form the main building, with stability being provided by the vertical bracing along with portalised frames. There is also a large structurally independent ‘goal-post’ signage board above the main building.
Spliced trusses were adopted to span the entire width of the main building; vertical bracing between the trusses and steel columns provided the lateral resistance against wind load imposed on the signboard.
