Following the great success we’ve had with our summer interns over the past couple of years—Peter Skeen in 2024 and Alex Stares in 2025—we were delighted to welcome Ella Tingley to the team back in July.
Ella had just completed her second year of an MEng in Engineering at St Catharine’s College, University of Cambridge, when she joined us for the summer.
During her time with us, Ella has had the opportunity to get involved in a range of activities, including designing in different materials, creating structural models, and undertaking site visits, giving her a valuable insight into how engineering projects progress from design through to construction. Being able to see projects taking shape on site has been a particular highlight for her. She says:
‘I love the kind of creative problem-solving structural engineering requires, and it’s super satisfying to be able to see projects you’ve worked on being built in real time.’
Ella is also interested in using engineering to promote sustainability and reduce poverty, and is involved with Cambridge’s student chapter of Engineers Without Borders UK.
She has been supported throughout her internship by Shoaib, her mentor, alongside several other members of the team who have shared their experience and helped her develop her understanding of structural engineering in practice.
Away from engineering, Ella enjoys playing the flute and baking for friends and family.
We have thoroughly enjoyed having Ella as part of the team this summer and have appreciated her enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness to get involved.
Her last day with us will be September 3rd, after which she will return to Cambridge for her third year to specialise in civil and structural engineering. We wish her every success with her studies and look forward to seeing where her engineering career takes her.
