Over the coming months, the limelight will shine on members of our team as they share their experiences, values, key projects and personal insight. First up is Monika Koclega – our Principal Engineer at the London office. Monika talks work, Brighton Theatre and why she was attracted to the industry…
What do you most enjoy about working for Peter Dann?
The variation of projects. The small jobs relax me while the big jobs challenge me. I am also part of the Sustainability Team – my big passion. I grew up in Poland, a country where a circular economy was not a trend but a must, and I encourage the reuse of materials as much as possible.
What are you working on?
The Brighton Theatre. Working on a historic building is always a challenge. Engineers almost have to act as a detective, trying to find out as much as possible about the existing structure with limited time and information. There is a great beauty hidden in those buildings and it is a massive pleasure to be a part of the team who are bringing the building to its best.
What attracted you to the industry?
I grew up with two brothers and we were always building something, like twig houses, tunnels through sand or igloos. We were always running around old or unfinished buildings (yes, in 90s Poland, kids knew how to access construction sites without health & safety equipment). My brothers became engineers, so I think it was the only way I could have ended up!
