Fitzwilliam Buildings Recognised by Historic England

We are very happy to learn that the Central Hall at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, will receive Grade II Listed status by Historic England, along with two other post-war buildings at the college. The news was recently reported by Architect’s Journal.

Peter Dann previously undertook refurbishment works on the Central Hall, including its iconic lantern which required re-roofing (below photo).

The building was designed in the early 1960s by architect Denys Lasdun – of National Theatre fame – and has been described by Historic England as seeming to ‘defy gravity […] a striking design.’

Fitzwilliam’s New Court and Chapel buildings were also listed at Grade II.
