Job Description:

We are seeking a talented and proactive Project Engineer to join our Cambridge team. This role is ideal for someone with a minimum of 3 years’ post-graduate experience in structural design, ready to take ownership of project delivery and client coordination.

You’ll work closely with senior engineers and technicians to deliver projects from early concept through to construction, across a range of sectors including residential, healthcare, leisure, commercial, education, and industrial. Experience in the latter 3 sectors is particularly advantageous and will support your ability to contribute confidently to design development, coordination, and client engagement.

The role includes site surveys, inspections, and regular design team meetings, both face-to-face and virtual. You’ll be client-facing and involved in project discussions, with scope for autonomy, technical growth, and career progression.

Chartership with IStructE or ICE is expected. If you are not yet chartered, you should be actively working towards it, and we will support your professional development.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Structural design in timber, steel, concrete, and masonry
  • Delivery of projects from feasibility through to construction
  • Undertaking site surveys and inspections
  • Attending design team and site meetings, both in person and online
  • Coordination with architects, clients, and other consultants
  • Preparation of calculations, specifications, reports, inspection notes, design sketches etc.
  • Support and supervision for production of project drawings
  • Review of Principal Contractor / sub-contractor drawings, specifications, and tender packages
  • Contribution to internal design reviews and quality assurance
  • Mentoring junior staff and supporting team development
  • Engagement in business development and client relationships

Key Skills:

Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Minimum 3 years’ design experience in UK consultancy
Chartered or actively working towards chartership with IStructE or ICE
Experience in commercial, education, and industrial sectors is highly desirable
Proficient in Tekla Structural Designer, TEDDS, and Fastrak
Familiarity with AutoCAD; experience with Revit and BIM Level 2 is advantageous
Strong communication and presentation skills
Ability to manage workload independently and report progress clearly
Experience across a range of building types and construction methods
